The Teaser is hosted at Should be Reading. Be sure to go there for the rules and more fun!
This is from p. 49 of Greenmantle by Charles De Lint.
His face was plump, his eyes somewhat vacant-looking, his hair lifting in an untidy thatch from his head. But when he lifted his pipes and set his breath into them, he changed.

This sounds interesting! I think I will at least go and read more about this!
Thanks for stopping by!
Ahhh, the power of music. Great TT!
The last teaser I read seemed to be without music - and this one can picture much music!
My teaser is here: http://booksandneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2009/01/teaser-tuesday-1-20-2009.html
De Lint's books generally have music as an important role. It's often like another character in the books. This is wonderful to me as a musician and music therapist.
Hmmm - I have discovered that I am totally not into the fantasy genre. I have no idea why the interest isn't there as I loved it when I was a kid. Are this author's books all fantasy? I do love music and am intrigued by how he incorporated it into his work as you say.
His books are fantasy but not the type that most people are familiar with. It's not fantasy in the sense of Tolkien or Robert Jordon. There are no high courts of kings and queens with magical beings doing their bidding. De Lint's books are what's called "urban fantasy." They take place in our modern society with fantastical elements intruding on people's everyday life. Neil Gaiman is similar but a little darker. Check them out. It never hurts to try. My fave of CHarles De Lint is Someplace To Be Flying and my fave of Neil Gaiman is American Gods.
